Mayor of Dungannon Maurice Morrow visits Linergy

Mayor of Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council, Maurice Morrow today took part in a study visit of Linergy located on Granville Industrial Estate.

Commenting on Linergy after the tour, Lord Morrow said: “Linergy is a great exemplar for the Northern Ireland economy of how local companies can adapt to changing operating conditions and use it to its best advantage. The result has been the development of an excellent concept for a potentially world leading renewable energy company which would not only safeguard hundreds of local jobs but also the success of a very important agri-food industry.”

During the visit Richard Moore, Managing Director of Linergy, outlined to Lord Morrow its innovative plans for the second phase of the company’s development which includes a proposed £18m extension to its current rendering plant. The result will be the use of existing biomass fuels from its current processes to produce renewable energy onsite.

Richard Moore said, “each year Northern Ireland produces 11.6 million tonnes of organic waste which could be converted to heat and electricity to power over 200,000 homes locally. We have invested several million pounds in the first phase of the Linergy’s development to establish a state-of-the-art rendering plant which currently processes animal by-products. This has been successfully operating for the last number of years and we are now looking to expand our facility to take the renewable biomass fuels we produce to convert them to renewable energy onsite.”
